Queen Jane Approximately Notes: When I first purchased tickets for this show it was being billed as "Robyn Hitchcock & The Venus Three." After a few weeks the event was changed to "Robyn Hitchcock & The Nashville Crawdads." It was advertised that Peter Buck and Nashville Friends would be playing with Robyn - but all other possible guests remained a mystery right up until show time. Robyn started with Belltown Ramble and when he got to the line "Where the Claremont used to be CLA-'REM'- ONT" - out walked Peter Buck quickly followed by Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, John Paul Jones, and Sean Nelson. It was a pretty good bet that Gillian and David were going to be there - but, everyone was simply blown away by the fact that John Paul Jones was playing mandolin. The performance put in by the band this night can be summed up by simply saying that it was "Fantastic!" The vibe was relaxed and there were several "huddles" to discuss what songs/chords/parts everyone would play. Robyn told a few crazy stories as is his tradition - and the night was very magical. Enjoy the recording and continue to share the gift of music.
